WORKSHOP ON AWARENESS GENERATION REGARDING ZOONOTIC DISEASES AND
ONE HEALTH APPROACH
April 28th, 2022- One day workshop was organized on the management of animal-borne
disease (zoonotic) among local farmers in West Sikkim, Yuksam. The workshop organized
by Khanchendzonga Conservation Committee (KCC) and Green Recovery of UNDP had
special presence of farmers and Panchayat members of Yuksam Dubdi Gram Panchayat Unit,
RO of KNP, Asha workers and progressive farmers from Tashiding area.UNDP and Gram
Panchayat and KCC representatives were present at the event and Adhikari Tenzing T Bhutia
of Yuksam Mahkuma was present as chief guest.
On this occasion, Rajrishi Chakraborty, the in-charge of UNDP Sikkim had informed about
the work being done in Yuksam region. Supriya Khund, Northeast in-charge of Green
Recovery of UNDP informed about Green Recovery, aiming to prepare people to act as an
opportunity to earn livelihood from local resources when any Corona like epidemic situation
is created in the future. She said she was doing it. Under this, she said that in the preparation
of KCC, the work of raising awareness about genetic diseases among the farmers.
On the other hand, the officer Doctor on behalf of the Sikkim government's Animal Husbandry
and Livestock Department, Pranisha Chhetri was present. She informed farmers about livestock
safety and insurance etc. as well as various methods of treatment. Thus information was given
about the management of zoonotic diseases at rural level. Thus participating representatives
exchanged suggestions and discussed various challenges and experiences of animal husbandry.
